Thuesday was a day of similar unremetting
toil . The speed with which Joe "Me for the tropics and no clothes ," Martin
laughed . |
The relationship between Martin and his job is rather contrasting. The necessity of working and the desire of studying can't coexist with his job of laundry-man. The job has some physical dangers (the washing and the machinery), but the problems that the work causes to Martin are also psychological. The work is very tiring and Martin can't devote all his free time to the study. In the evening he tries to read but the time overwhelmes him and Martin lives his job with the hope that one day he'll have the possibility to read more. Every day he suffers not only for the danger of washing but also he suffers for the lock of time for himself. The job causes him some worries and he must fight every day, every moment because the weight of his work during the working day influences his study. Martin's job is very exhausting, causing him a psycological oppression that overcomes the physical one; in fact in the night he can't sleep and read. |
